How do I get my business recommended by ChatGPT?

Short answer

AI assistants recommend businesses they can understand and check. Make your website say clearly what you do, where, for whom and at what price; answer your customers’ common questions in short, direct sentences; add structured data that describes your business; and make sure your name, address, phone and reviews match everywhere you’re listed.

How AI assistants choose who to name

When someone asks ChatGPT, Perplexity or Google’s AI Overviews "who’s a reliable plumber near me?", the assistant searches the web, reads the pages it finds and writes an answer. It names the businesses whose pages give it a clear, confident answer to that exact question.

That means the assistant has to be able to tell, from your own pages, what you do, where you do it and why you’re a good choice. If your homepage says "Quality you can trust" and nothing else, there’s nothing to quote.

Five things to fix first

  1. Say what, where and for whom in your headline. "Boiler installation and repairs in Leeds" beats "Quality you can trust".
  2. Publish prices, or price ranges. "How much does it cost?" is one of the most common questions people ask AI. If you don’t answer it, someone else will.
  3. Add an FAQ written as questions and short answers. Put the direct answer in the first sentence, then the detail.
  4. Make your facts match. The same business name, address, phone, founding year and accreditations on every page and every listing. AI tools cross-check, and contradictions make them hesitate.
  5. Add structured data. A few lines of code (LocalBusiness and FAQPage schema) that tell Google and AI tools exactly who you are, where you are and what you offer.

Reviews and outside proof

AI tools trust what other people say about you more than what you say about yourself. Ask every happy customer for a Google review, show your best reviews on your site as plain text, and link your site to your Google Business Profile and the trade or professional bodies you belong to.

How to check where you stand

Ask ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google the questions your customers ask, such as "who does end of tenancy cleaning in [your town]?", and note who gets named. Then check whether your website answers each question clearly. That’s exactly what our 10-question AI test does.
